Despite retiring from the NFL last month, Tom Brady hasn’t convinced everyone that he’s actually done playing football.

In an interview with SI’s Jimmy Traina, NFL insider Mike Florio declared that he expects Brady will soon make a move to unretire and force the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to release or trade him. From there, he predicts that Brady will be the Week 1 starting quarterback of the San Francisco 49ers.

“I still think that Week 1 he’s going to be the 49ers’ starting quarterback,” Florio said. “I think when the season begins, when we’re digesting Russell Wilson in Denver and Deshaun Watson – wherever – I think Tom Brady is going to be the quarterback of the San Francisco 49ers in 2022.”

Florio explained that the way Brady worded his retirement message suggested that he was only retiring from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. And after winning a Super Bowl and helping them fill their stadium, Brady will convince the team to let him go.

Tom Brady certainly wouldn’t be the first player to make a big deal of his retirement only to return later. But there’s little doubt that Brady is still NFL-ready.

He’s reportedly staying in game shape and hasn’t done anything that suggests that he’s completely given up on playing. Maybe Brady really is planning to force his way off the Bucs roster and play for another team. Crazier things have happened.
