When the news broke that Aaron Rodgers was returning to the Packers for the 2022 season, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport said the reigning MVP would sign a four-year, $200 million extension. On Tuesday morning, Rapoport had an update on Rodgers’ new contract.
Rapoport is reporting that Rodgers’ contract will pay him $150 million over the next three years. Rodgers’ cap number for this season will be $28.5 million. In 2023, Rodgers will make a total of $59.515 million. It’s a hefty price to pay to keep the four-time MVP in the fold.
After a week of going back and forth with the #Packers, Aaron Rodgers’ complicated contract pays him $50M per year over 3 years — $150M. Plus there are two low-money option years that will be replaced. https://t.co/VlnbubjhxY

Even though Rodgers said the initial reports of his $50 million salary were “categorically false,” it turns out they were somewhat right. He’ll be the highest-paid quarterback in the league. As you’d expect, the NFL world poked some fun at Rodgers’ past comments.
“So categorically true,” Peter Bukowski of Locked on Packers said. “Interesting.” “Categorically false is the new I’ve been immunized,” one fan said. “So, the number ended up being accurate lol,” another fan said.

Rodgers has played at such a high level that Green Bay is willing to pay $50 million per year, that’s for sure. However, the Packers will need to win a second Super Bowl with Rodgers fairly soon in order to feel justified.
